Abstract:
The article considers the genesis of the graphic form of 两, a Chinese character, i.e. the question whether characters 㒳 and 两 are identical. The authors answer the question in the affirmative. The liaison between 丙 and 两is also analyzed. In the end, the article suggests a hypothesis that 两 did use to denote the front of a wagon while acting as a measure word.
