FUZZY BOUNDARIES BETWEEN PRIMARY AND SECONDARY TEXT FEATURES IN VLADIMIR NABOKOV’S SELF-TRANSLATIONS

Abstract:

The paper examines the relationship of primary and secondary text features in texts of self-translation. Analysis of conative and poetic functions in Vladimir Nabokov’s self-translations demonstrates that fuzzy boundaries between primary and secondary text features in self-translation are observed when the author introduces expressive means, because he aims at a different audience and writes in a different language. As a result, a different set of language functions can be observed in texts of self-translation.
