FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEXTBOOKS AS A POLITICAL INSTRUMENT

Abstract:

The article looks at foreign language textbooks as an instrument of political influence on the younger generation and an means of preserving national and cultural identity. Focusing specifically on modern textbooks of the French language, it explores their authors‟ understanding and implementation of the intercultural approach by providing a comparative analysis of the textbooks‟ guidelines, texts, and educational assignments. The article goes on to discuss acceptability of various types of textbooks as means of training students for intercultural dialogue based on the principle of equality of cultures.
