THE AUTHOR AND THE CATEGORY OF SPACE IN PAUL AUSTER’S NOVEL “MAN IN THE DARK”

Author’s name:

Abstract:

The article provides an analysis of “textual space” structures in postmodern literature, based on Paul Auster’s novel “Man in the Dark.” It particularly focuses on the author’s part in creating the text structure in view of Bahktin’s chronotope theory as well as postmodern statements that shift the focus from the author to the interaction between text and reader. The article further identifies in Auster’s novels a special ‘postmodern’ chronotope, characterized by relativity of character, space, and time.
