Abstract:

The article examines the possibility of using German TV programs in order to raise cultural awareness and background knowledge of students majoring in foreign languages and linguistics. With this objective, it explores several genres of documentary TV and news programs available on German television and discusses their potential for expanding students’ cross-cultural and sociolinguistic competence.
