Abstract:
The article analyzes the characters of Tennessee Williams’s play The Notebook of Trigorin which is a free adaptation of A. Chekhov’s comedy The Seagull. It explores the influence of the Russian playwright’s work on the American writer, compares and contrasts the approaches to major characters’ representation in both plays, and demonstrates that Tennessee Williams managed to create an original play in relation to its Russian source material.
