SOMETHING WILD: TENNESSEE WILLIAMS’S THEATER AESTHETICS

Abstract:

The paper discusses theater aesthetics of Tennessee Williams known for his concept of the plastic theater. The author analyzes one of the essays by the American playwright – Something Wild – that contributes much to the understanding of the writer’s theater philosophy. The author comes to the conclusion that Tennessee Williams’s search of universal theater language echoed different tendencies of European avant-garde theater, for example, “theater of cruelty” by Antonin Artaud.
