Digital Literacy of Language and Translation Teachers as the Basis for Media Safety of University Students

Abstract:

The article considers the concepts of ‘digital literacy’ and ‘media security’ in relation to the professional pedagogical activity of instructors in multidisciplinary universities. Special attention is given to the role of language and translation teachers in providing the opportunities and benefits of digital transformation and reducing its risks for all participants of the educational process. The article analyzes the current literature, discusses outcomes of research and methodological work carried out by the faculty from language departments that train both language-major and non-language-major students, and examines specific examples of pedagogical practices that contribute to better media security of students as a critical element of information security.
