Abstract:

Exploring the object cultural code in linguistics, the article focuses on the frequent use in French of metaphoric units used to reflect on people’s lives and their environment. The aim of the article is to determine the object cultural code and its role in French literature. The research is based on an indexed collection of entries from French explanatory and phraseological dictionaries, compiled with the help of the continuos sampling method, and the text of « Sarah Bernhardt, ou le rire incassable » (“Dear Sarah Bernhardt”) by Françoise Sagan. The main research methods used in this study are comparative language analysis, classification, synthesis of scientific concepts, hypothesis, and comparison. The results of the research confirm the functional mobility of the object cultural code. The theoretical significance of the study lies in its attempt to explore the expressiveness of the object code using fiction. Practically, its results can be used in teaching lexicology and semantics of modern French as well as courses in language theory, cultural linguistics, and translation theory. The novelty of the research consists in considering the object code of culture as a culturological category which expresses and systematizes achievements of semiotic, linguistic, and other types of research in this area.
