Abstract:

The article outlines distinctive features of the communicative/functional approach to teaching translation and interpretation (as opposed to the linguistic approach) and highlights its advantages in teaching interpretation, given its emphasis on the importance of the communicative situation, the speaker’s intention and the communicative effect.
