Abstract:
The article examines scholarly approaches and ideas for addressing problems of linguistic safety, offered by experts in linguodidactics and theorists of foreign language learning. The author suggests compiling a comparative analysis of those theories that seek to overcome, first of all, the currently predominant unipolar orientation to only one of the world languages, and to contribute to the development of multilingualism and polyculturalism of the society. The author commends theories and concepts that promote multilingualism, popular in the European Union, as well as concepts of polylingual, multilingual, and plurilingual training, which undergird language policy and all theory of language education in the Russian Federation.
